NOTES FROM THE DESIGNER
TO DRAW INSPIRATION FOR EACH OF MY COLLECTIONS I BEGIN LOOKING AT ART. WHILE SCOURING ARTSTOR AND THE WEB FOR PAINTINGS OF PICNICS I BEGAN TO NOTICE A SIMILAR THEME. FROM RUBENS TO SARGENT, THE CLOTHING THE WOMEN WEAR OFTEN FLOWED AND BLENDED INTO THE BLANKETS THEY ATE THEIR LUNCHEONS ON.
THIS MELTING OF FABRIC CONJURED THE IMAGE OF A DREAMY RELAXED AFTERNOON, AND I WANTED TO TRANSLATE THAT THROUGH THE COLLECTION. WHILE MOVING AWAY FROM TIGHTLY FITTING GARMENTS AND CREATING LOOSER AND FREE-FLOWING DRESSES TO MIMIC THE WISTFULNESS IN THE ARTWORKS, KEEPING WITH PARIS 99 TRADITION I CHOSE TO WORK WITH THE PATTERN OF THE AMERICANA PICNIC BLANKET, GINGHAM."
